Pediatric Chiropractic in Mankato
Caring for children from birth, and even before, is vital to their healthy development. Stress starts while still in Mom’s belly; when she is stressed, the baby feels it too!
During the birthing process, 60-90 lbs of force is placed on the baby’s head and neck. That’s a tremendous amount of stress on the spine and nervous system from the beginning.
Chiropractic focuses on development and function from birth. We start your child in the right direction from the start, when problems are easier to address. Many children don’t show any negative effects at first; the sooner your newborn is checked by our chiropractor, the better.

What Is Pediatric Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is natural health care for children. The main benefit of pediatric chiropractic is protecting the function of the child’s spine and nervous system. The best time to check the spine is when it is young, developing and healthy. We want to ensure your child functions at their optimal level for a lifetime.
A Healthy Future Starts Now
At Rignell Family Chiropractic, we assess your child’s nervous system for misalignments and gently correct them. Regular adjustments as the child grows keep their spine healthy, allowing them to grow and thrive. Even with the bumps and falls of childhood, chiropractic keeps them on track to hit every milestone.
As your child goes through their various growth stages, any stress that’s not addressed can lead to more problems later in life. Dealing with the physical, chemical and metal stressors of daily life, the body will always seek ways to compensate. The longer those adaptations are in place, the more difficult they are to correct.
The scale of care is tailored to your child. While we may use some of the same techniques, they are done with significantly reduced force. Our adjustments are more like checking the ripeness of a peach.
Adjustment allows children to develop, grow and adapt to their environment in a healthy way. Prone-Specific Technique is great for pediatric care. It’s gentle and, since it only adjusts the specific vertebrae with issues, it’s finished quicker—great for those kids who won’t stay still!

Why would I have my newborn or young child adjusted?
During the first five years of life, your child’s body produces more neural pathways than at any other time. This is one of the big reasons chiropractic care is so important for children! Dr. Rignell will assess how your child’s spine and nervous system adapt to life’s stressors, including the impact of birth, knocks and falls (which we know kids have a lot of), and posture.
Many developmental milestones are affected by spinal alignment, making childhood an important time to have your child checked. Some of the most common reasons we see children include digestive issues, reflux, bladder control, sleep problems, immune system support, allergies, ear infections, growing pains, scoliosis, and more.
Adjustments are safe and effective for children of all ages. We will tailor the adjustments to your child’s age and needs. For infants, the force of the adjustment is similar to checking the ripeness of a peach, and babies sometimes even sleep right through them. As children get older, we see them running in and jumping up on the table with excitement to get adjusted.
Dr. Rignell had the opportunity to adjust his children just a few hours after they were born. In the office, we are honored to treat kids who are just a few days old, and as they grow, and often also have the chance to treat their mother throughout her pregnancy. We love watching kids grow and develop with the help of chiropractic care!
Dr. Rignell will get a thorough history, consultation, and examination on your child. Once all that information is gathered and correlated, he will work with the parent to come up with a treatment plan that is best for your child. Most often, the treatment plans are shorter for children, as we see them responding more quickly to care.
Providing Successful Outcomes
Dr. Rignell remembers a little girl who came to the practice with significant developmental delays. She had never had good function or feeling in her upper extremities. After receiving an adjustment, and going through her care plan, she was able to move her arms for the first time. Her joy at her accomplishment was wonderful to see.
